Foxton Borough Council.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held on Monday night at 7.30 o’clock. Present—Hie Worship the Mayor ,{or T. Westwood), and Ora GK Coley, J. Symons, 0. Austin, B. G. Gower, G. Stiles, J. F. Overend, S. Baker and A. Speirs. The minutes of the last monthly meeting were read and confirmed. Mr M. H. Walker, wrote asking that something should be done to the road leading to his property from Norbition Road. Or Baker said he thought it was too late to do anything. Proposed by Or Stiles, seconded by Or Austin, That the foreman be asked to furnish a report as to what is required to the street past Mr Walker’s, as per latter, with a view to repairing same. Carried. Mr J. Hillary wrote asking for an outlet from his section 509, to Fatter*, street, and suggesting that a road be opened to Union-street. Or Baker said he thought Foxton was sufficiently advanced to have all the by-roads opened. . Mr H. Bradcook wrote reaigni|g the post of ranger on account of ill*V health. Proposed by Or Gower, seconded by Cc Symons, That the ranger’s resignation be accepted and that fresh tenders be called to be in by the next meeting on August 24th, Carried. From Land and Income Department, saying that a payment of £IOB 8s 6d had been sent to the Treasury as subsidy. Prom Albert Dodson asking for an extension of time for the cutting of trees in Victoria Park as the branches were too wot for burning. Proposed by Or Speirs, seconded by Or Coley, That Mr Dodson's request for extension of time be granted. Carried. From W. G. Turnbull & Co,, and Levin & Co., quoting prices for tanks. From Railway Department, drawing attention that the shingle is being allowed to accumulate on the beach, which necessitates double handling. From the Treasury Department, notifying the payment of £SOO on loan account. From Railway Department, sending account for £73 for shingle supplied. Reports and accounts were read. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Cr Overend, That the Reserves Committee meet in the Victoria Park on Wednesday next accompanied by Mr R. Gray, to report on the planting of shrubs required there. Carried. Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Gower, That notice be given to all occupiers of streets to remove' all fences and throw them open foe public use. / An amendment proposed by Or Stiles, seconded by Cr Austin, That until applications are forwarded to the Council for the opening of closed roads the Council take no action in the matter. On being pat- to the meeting the amendment was lost. Mr Cooksley, the contractor for metalling the roads, waited and masked that some new arrangement be made if he was to continue carting over roads .where new metal had been put. Proposed by Or Baker, seconded by Or Coley, That owing to the wet season now Availing that all new metal work be put off till next year. An amendment was proposed by Cc Speirs, seconded by Cr Stil#, That Mr Oooksley’s request for ls 6d extra per yard be agreed to for long distances on new work. The amendment was carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Gower, That the accounts as read, amounting to £867 4s Id, be passed for payment. Carried, Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded

by Op Gower, That the Minister of Hallways be asked to mend the gross flaw in regard to the railway charges upon eggs. This Council is o! the opinion that the poultry farmer shfl# receive the same treatment as the fchitgrower, and that the freight be the same, viz., 6d per every halfrhundred weight for any distance. Further that Job. Vile, Esq., be sent a copy of this motion. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Or Symons, That three rooms of the Ferry house be paperecl, and that the verandah roof be covered with iron. Carried. The nightsoil contractor was present and gave information to the Council re carrying out his contract. Proposed by Cr Gower, seconded by Or Baker, That the reports as read be adopted. Carried. Proposed by Cr Speirs, seconded by Or Gower, That the Clerk take action to close Gray-street. Carried. Cr Gower proposed, and Or Baker seconded, That this Council adopt the 2nd schedule of “ The Noxious Weeds Act,” and that the Clerk write the Minister of Agriculture to that effect, and have it gazetted. Carried. The Heseryes Committee decided to visit Victoria Park on Wednesday and see what can be done to clear weeds off running tracks. The Mayor mentioned that a deputation from the Athletic Club was to attend, but had not put in an appearance. The Council then adjourned.
