Rioting in Russia.

STRIKERS KILLED BY TROOPS. Strike disturbances have occurred at Nikolaieff, in the province of Kherson, South Russia. The troops killed twelve and wounded two hundred strikers- who tried to storm the Government spirit depot. It is computed that during the last month- two hundred strikers have been, killed and two thousand wounded. The Times declares that a con-' siderable portion of industrial Russia is in a condition bordering on wholesale anarchy. Dockers sacked many shops in Odessa throwing the contents into the sea. They forced the Chief of Police to flee, and they declare that they will burn the city if the troops shoot. SERIOUS POSITION OF AFFAIRS. Forty-five thousand strikers at Baku, the emporium of the Caspian oil wells, have been masters of the town for six days. There are only 600 soldiers in the neighbourhood. There have been no

trains, trams, or newspapers for ten days, while the town was in total darkness for two nights. Many in* cendiary fires occurred at the naphtha wells. The military, who have j*»n largely reinforced, are escorting tlm trains and acting as train conducted; Wholesale arrests 0! strikers will be made if they refuse to accept promises of an eight-hour day and ah increase of wages. The men ask for a material guarantee. FIGHTING AT KIEPP. Three days’ street fighting has occurred at Kieff. t . Sixty persons have been killed and nearly a hundred wounded. The Cossacks drove many into, the river, including some women and children. The railway workers, mechanics and textile operatives have now joined the Kieff strikers.
