Meeting of Shopkeepers.

A meeting of shopkeepers, convened by the Mayor, was held in the Oouncil Chambers last evening. The Mayor in the chair. The business was to consider the proposed new Shop and Offices Bill now before Parliament. The following resolution was proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Mr Loveday, That this meeting of shopkeepers in the Borough of Fozton have met for the purpose of considering the new Shops and Offices Bill before Parliament, declare that the proposed change in the halfholiday from Wednesday to Saturday is not in the best interests of trade. After discussion, an amendment was proposed by Mr seconded by Mr Fraser, That tbia meeting of shopkeepers approve of the new Bill. The amendment was lost, and the resolution was carried. The voting was 6 to 4. The meeting then terminated with a vote of thanks to the Mayor for presiding.
