A Fatal Explosion.

CARETAKER BLOWN TO ATOMS. The explosives’ magazine at Robb’s Jetty, three miles from Fremantle, blew up. The caretaker, Whelan, was blown to atoms. Whelan saw a light in the magazine and got two men to go with him to investigate the cause. Whelan, who left his companions behind a sandbank, went and looked into the window of the magazine. As the result of what ha saw he shouted to the others to clear out. The building, at the same instant, blew up. The shock was felt in Perth, fifteen miles distant. The origin of the explosion is a mystery. The remains of the watchman named Whelan have been found. They were horribly mutilated, It was a detonator store containing 13 cases of dynamite that exploded. It is believed there will be important developments in a few days, as it is considered absolutely impos sible that the explosion could have been accidental.
