Pope Leo’s illness.
DEATH IMMINENT. • Tuesday evening’s bulletin con* corning the condition of Pope. Leo says: “ The decrease in the patient’s strength continues, and the pulse is feeble. The condition of his Holiness is serious, but there is no immediate danger.” A message received through Reuter’s Agency from Rome : aays “ There is great uneasiness at the Vatican, due to the almost entire failure of the renal (kidney) functions in the patient, who is now rapidly becoming weaker. The effort to breathe is now more difficult. “ His Holiness conversed with the Cardinals daring the evening,, but with great difficulty, articulating in monosyllables only. His'ihemory is less clear. “ A slight rally took place late in the evening, and his Holiness conversed 1 lucidly with Cardinal Satolh regarding the work of the Biblical Committee. “ There are rumours that his Holiness is suffering from oaroinomia (a cancerous growth) on the liver.” The Pope had a farther relapse at midnight. - It is announced that the demise of his Holiness is feared before dawn.
