The Totalisator.
Largely-Signed petitions in favour of the retention of the totalisator were presented to the House on Tuesday,, the petitioners alleging that the movement to abolish the machine is another phase of prohibition. Countet-petitions were pre- , sented praying for the abolition of the machine, and Mr Ell gave notice to; introduce the Totalisator Abolition Bill. i The fate of the totalisator has apparently already been decided. Some members, who take a deep interest in the subject, pricked a card last night, and found that, after giving every possible vote to the opponents of the machine, there was quite a substantial majority in favor of its retention.
