At Te Awamntu Mi! Northcroft, S.M., postponedhisdeoision on some King Country sly-grog oases and reserved others for a jury. The Magistrate referred to the degenerate state of the Natives in the King Country since the advent of the white men among them. He had been through the King Country many years ago when the Natives were healthy and clean living and vigorous people; but now men, women and children were addicted to drunkenness and Other loathsome, vices. As for the people who unlawfully sold liquor in the King Country he intended to send to gaol when the charges were proved before him. This applied to men and women alike. They went into the wretched business with their eyes open and must be prepared to ' take the consequences.
