Fitzmaurice Gill Coy.

On Friday night, the 19th June, the above Co. play a season of one night only, appearing in the Public Hall, on which occasion they will produce by special arrangement with J. C. Williamson Esq., Barrett’s famous drama " The Sign of the Cross,’’.which will be staged in elaborate style, due attention having been paid to scenery and costumes. The production has created more interest than any other piece of recent years and which has been commented on by all the leading writers of the day who, one and all, pronounce the play of the century the greatest moral and intellectual drama of modern times. It hot only appleals to the regular playgoer, but to adherents of all religious denominations. The piece deals with persecution of early Roman Christians under the Emperor Nero, and the plot hangs on Marcus, the wealthy Prefect of Rome falling in love with Mercia (a Christian). His efforts to save her from death in the arena, and his ultimately becoming a Christian and going to his death with her. Miss Gill will be . seen as Mercia j her impersonation of the character being very highly spoken of by the press ot the colony. With Miss Gill is associated Mr Chas. Blake who will play Marcus. The box plan is now open at Mr Alf. Fraser’s.
