Sir.—ln your paper of the and May appears a misrepresentation of a meet* toe in connection with the above scheme, and of which you certainly * have been misinformed. You represent the meeting as a public one held to '•recruit" supporters to this movement, and as such refer to the poor attendance. , As a matter of fact the meeting was merely a committee meeting, ol which no public notice whatever had been riven and as such was very well attended in spite of the fact that races were on at the time In Palmerston. The loeal prose wae represented by permission of the meeting, and-gaVe a very fair account of the proceedings. You further state that “for some reason which has not been made clear the idea of a Drainage Beard as decided at Fexlon hail been dropped and a River Botrd suggested, which points te a decided weakness on the part of the promoters, as before going afield to recruit the promoters should have been able to give Nasos* for the choice of Board* originally proposed." These remarks might have been justifiable » the meeting bad been a public one a* you suppose, but elr, tie committee wae actually doing what you suggest they should do. The original propoeal was that a River or Drainage Board be formed, leaving the final decision as to which to the committee, and that committee decided at this mcetiag to recommend the former, and now intend to call a public meeting at Palmerston North on the 14th to put definite proposals before the rateknowing that you take a publii .spirited interest in the district which you have done so much to advance 1 feel sure you will allow me to correct this slight misconception, and are prepared to assist a movement of advance, f am, Ac., Oswald Gardnik, Chairman of Provisional Committee.
