Foxton Brough Council.

A special meeting: of the above Conn* cifwas ifcldlaSt night at 7 o’clock. Proposed by Cr Westwood, seconded by Cr Speirs, That the tender of Mr Cooksley for metal carting be accepted. After the resolutions were earned His Worship the .Mayor rose and said that as this was the last meeting of the present Council he would take the opportunity to thank the Coun* cillors for the uniform courtesy ex* tended to himdutlng the occupancy the chair. He had also to thank them for the assistance they had rendered him in carrying out the business of the borough, and he thought thsy inlght congratulate ,- feeawehjw ,pu „ having achieved something during* thelrTerm of office, principally in getting a bill .through the House enabling-'email boroughs to borrow Tor road making. He intended during the coming year to battle with the Marine Department < for leading lights at the entrance to the river to enable vesssls to take fee bar at night. He also hoped after the election to see the same councillors sitting at the table who had, worked so well with him daring the past year. Cr* Westwood congratulated, the Mayor on his re-election,'and thanked n him for the consideration , .always shown ■to him and other Councillors. He also expressed the opinion that His Worship was the most progressive and energetic Mayor that had over sat at that table. Cr Speirs also said that he was very pleased to congratulate the Mayor on his re-election and though they had not always "been ‘of the same opinion in council matters, yet be thought it was rather an advantage than otherwise as when ten councillors were sitting at a table it was always advisable to get different opinions then for the majority to decide, and he was sure that though they differed at the table they were always good friends outside.

Or Baker also congratulated the Mayor and he held the-opinion that the council had always done the best in the past to further the interests of the Borough add he hoped they would again be elected
