The Camp.

The volunteers arrived in camp on the racecourse on Thursday night in beautiful weather, moonlight and still, but cold. Yesterday was a perfect morning though a slight shower was experienced at midday. Drill was held on the course in the morning, and in the afternoon skirmishing exercise was practised over the adjoining run towards the sea. This morning the mounted infantry and volunteers, headed by the band, under command of Col. Watt, marched through the town to attack "the Wellington men, which they expected to meet-by the river. To-night the Wellington men march into camp. To-morrow morning the volunteers will have divine service on the course at 9 a.m., and will afterwards do some drilling. In the afternoon the men will have a time off, and probably tbe band will discourse sweet music and the inhabitants will visit the troops. NOTES. After the band had marched through the town with the volunteers they returned and obligingly played some selections in the Main-street, under Mr G. Buckley, the bandmaster, which were much appreciated. The remainder of the Wanganui Garrison Band will arrive to-night with Conductor James Crichton. In the afternoon the band will play a number of selections, amongst which will be the two test pieces recently played at the Band Contest held at Masterton
