Rounders.
Some twenty girls of the local State School Rounder Club, in charge of the Head teacher, and Mrs Stewart,, journeyed on Saturday last to play a friendly game with the Campbell-st. school club. The weather was propitious, and the young folks had a particularly good time, . They were met at the Railway station by the Campbell street girls under the care of their teachers, Mrs Hanna and Mrs Mellish, and welcomed with three cheers. From the station they were taken to the school and immediately after to Youngson’s .in the Square, where they were regaled with an excellent dinner. After visiting the new District High Sohool, which in its present state of extreme plainness was duly admired, they returned to the Campbell street school grounds, and played the little game. The game as played in Palmerston differs a good deal from the game played at the Foxton school, so that dur girls were at a disadvantage. However, they played very well indeed under the circumstances, and although beaten were not beaten badly. Mr Warden, First Assistant, superintended the play throughout and bis services were invaluable. At the end ef the game afternoon tea in sumphidus fashion was supplied in one of the classrooms, and was properly appreciated by one and all. A ramble round the Square and viewing the wonders of the shops passed the time pleasantly till 5.30, when a second adjournment to the school took place, and more tea and dainties of every eatable kind were disposed of. The hospitality of the Campbell street club was indeed grand, and was duly acknowledged by Mr Stewart, who spoke in high terms of the zeal ana professional spirit manifested by Mrs Hanna and Mrs Mellish in carrying out their voluntary -duties. Then to the Railway station, and so home after a most enjoyable day. 9 MW
