Dramatic Company.
All lovers of drama wiUbe d«* lighted to learn that the popular and powerful Majeroni Dramatic*Gompany will play a return sea Son harfl on Monday evening next, 2nd March. Since their previous visit they have visited the principal towns of the North Island with phenomenal sue* cess, and the great impression, they crested here should entitle them a welcome of the heartiest description and a record attendance next Monday evening^ The play which will be submitted on that evening will be Mr A. F. 0. Harcourt’s grand military drama, “ Enlisted, or the Chain Gang," one of the finest of modern dramas and one of the strongest plays in the company’s repertoire. This stirring piece has been received with marked success in England, America - and Australia, and in New Zealand with the greatest enthusiasm. Commenting on the Majeroni Company’s in* terpretation of “ Enlisted ” a contemporary says:—The acme of histronic art is to have enthralled, interested and amused your audience —to take them out of themselves and make them believe they are looking on a scene in real life in all its naturalness, while at the same time pleasing them to such an extent as to leave the impression behind of having given a glimpse of real and enjoyment, All this truly say was accomplished by the Majeroni Company in the stirring military play “ Enlisted, or tha
Chain Gang,” at the Theatre Eoyal last evening. The drama is one of the best that has ever been staged hero, and the Company is without exception the most powerful combination that has visited this town for many years. From the opening scene to the fall of the curtain the audience followed the plot with the keenest interest, and at times became so absorbed in it that the villain received as hearty a condemnation as if the incidents were real. This in itself shows that the character delineations Were a triumph of art.' The dratoa was splendidly mounted, the Menery and dresses being really very. fine. Mr Mario and Mr George Majaroni scored an instantaneous success, and they were vary ably supported by each a,ad every member of their talented Company. The box plan is now open at Mr Fraser’s. The Majaroni Company are at present Playing to packed and delighted audiences in Masterton.
