The Majeroni Dramatic Company.
One of the most important and interesting events in the theatrical history of Foxfcon will eventuate on Tuesday evening next at the Town Hall by the visit of the celebrated Majeroni Dramatic Company, under the direction of Mr Charles MacMahon. The combination is headed by Messrs Mario and George Majeroni, two of the most popular an talented actors at present on the Australasian stage. For some years past they have been associated with Messrs Williamson and Brough, having sustained many leading roles in most of the above well-known managers’ greatest successes. The Australasian critics are unanimous in asserting that both Mr Mario and Mr George Marjereni have inherited their great histrionic abilities from them father, the late Signor Marjeroni, who was one of the most brilliant actors that has ever visited the colonies. The leading lady, Miss Hilda Meade, a most gifted young English actress, has already
made her reputation in the great metropolis of the World. She is credited with being one of the most natural and charming actresses of the age, and, at Christchurch, her fine impersonations created a great sensation, winning unstinted praise from the critics of that city. The other members of the company (numbering twenty-six) have been selected from the leading Australian companies, and judging by the glowing press reports as to their excellence, the theatre-goers of Foxton have a treat in store in the forthcoming visit of this fine organisation. The opening production will be the romantic and highly sensational Irish drama, in four acts, by Mr Walter Reynolds, entitled “ The Shamrock and the Rose,” at present enjoying a record run of over 1000 nights in London, In Sydney this play ran for sixteen weeks to packed houses, and in Melbourne for fifteen Weeks to the same business. On Wednesday evening another noted London success, “ Brother against Brother ” will be staged. The scenery has been painted by Mr Harry Waite, the well-known scenic artist. The dramas will be staged and mounted on the most elaborate scale, all the original scenery which was used at Christchurch being shown here. The box plan is now oil view at Alf. Fraser’s. As this is the best company that has ever visited here, we can safely predict overflowing houses.
