Police Statistic for Foxton.
The returns of crime daring the year 1902 as heard and determined at Foxton, are as follows: — Abusive and threatening language, 14 persons; were dealt with sum* marily. Common assaplts —23 persons were either arrested or summoned, 19 of whom were summarily convicted and 4 discharged.
Begging—2 were convicted. Breaches of the Peace caused 8 persons to bo convicted and one to be discharged. - Cruelty to animals caused one person to be convicted. Discharging firearms was tfio cause for one person being convicted. Four males were summarily convicted for disorderly and riotous conduct, and three males for disturbing meetings and congregations wore also dealt with. Drunkenness found 70 males and 2 females summarily convicted. For failing to support parents and near relatives 8 persons were brought to Court, one of whom was convicted and two discharged. One person was convicted of false pretences. Illegally on premises caused the appearance of three persons, two being convicted and one discharged. Three persons for indecent behaviour were convicted, and the same number appeared to plead to the charge of malicious injury to property. Two were convicted and one discharged. Sixteen persona were summarily convicted for the use of obscene language. For* obstructing railway officers one person was convicted. For receiving stolen property ona male was summarily convicted, and one male and one female ivere discharged. One person was convicted for refusing to quit licensed premises. Twelve persons were convicted of theft and three were discharged. ■
Trespass was the reason for ona male being convicted, and one malewas convicted and another discharged for vagrancy. One person was committed for trial for threatening to break into >nd enter. Two males were convicted on the charge of working on a Sunday. Tlhe total shows that the numbers of aIX offences reported to the Station wereSl96, ‘for which there were either ahresfcs or summonses amounting to 188/V 168 males >nd S females were summarily con yicted, and 15. inales and' 1 female were <?wcfiarged. The different charges show thaiN the increase for the past year exceed that of 1902 by 56, the actual increase and decrease being 78 to 17. To this must be added the Civil side of Court work, and the total will show that there is plenty of business for the Clerk of the Court to do.
