Christchurch Wool Sale.
The first of the present season's wool sales was held on Thursday last. There was a large attendance of both local and foreign bus'ers. The catalogos consisted of 4534 bales, as against 4368 bales for the corresponding sale of last season. There were virtually no large station clips on offer, and super merino was conspicuous by its absence. The bulk of the wool, however, came forward in fair to good condition. The sales opened briskly, a much better tone prevailing in coarse wools than was expected after the unsatisfactory news as to the London wool sales. The following are quotations Greasy merino, medium to good, to gfd per lb ; inferior, 6Jd to to B|d ; medium, 6£d to 5d to 6£d ; greasy crossbred, superior, 6d to 6£d; medium, sd to 5Jd; inferior, 3d to 4sd; greasy longwool, superior, s£d to 6£d; inferior, 3d to 5d ; greasy pieces and bellies, good, s|d to yd; inferior, ad to 4d; greasy locks, id to 3^d.
