Mr Chamberlain.
The armoured cruiser Good Nope, which is !o take Mr Chamberlain to South Africa, will sail on the 25th.
Mr Chamberlain hopes that the chief characteristics of his tour will be frank and confidential discussion with representative men of all classes, races and politics. His desire is td avoid public functions, the object of the tour being business, not show. He will spend a week or ten days in Natal, and then go to the Transvaal.
A INVITATION TO CAPE COLONY,
Sir W; F- Hcly-HtUChinsdn, dovernor of Cape Colony, cabled on Saturday to Mr Chamberlain that he had received from his Ministers a confidential minute as follows :
“ Ministers having been informed incidentally that he intends to visit South Africa, they beg to convey to Mr Chamberlain tlie entire satisfaction wherewith they have received the intelligence. “ Thcj' desire to receive him as the guest of the colony, together with any others accompanying him, among whom, it is hoped, will be Mrs Ch miberlain,
“They trust that Mr Chamberlain will be able to spend at least a fortnight on a visit to the eastern and northern districts, where he will receive a most hearty welcome. “ The people will ho disappointed if they are debarred the opportunity of personally expressing their appreciation of his invaluable services to the colony and to Sooth Africa during the prolonged period of Unexampled difficulty.”
Mr Chamberlain replied on Monday : —“ I have received your cordial message with great pleasure, and gladly accept the invitation. My wife much appreciates the kind reference to her. I hope the details of the visit may be arranged as suggested.”
