A Handy Bishop.
When Archbishop fklufflarez Smith and a number of other of the Anglican Church in Australasia repaired to Adelaide the other day to lay the foundation stone of a church, the Archbishop took with him his pastoral staff, securely locked in a box. When he arrived tie discovered that he had forgotten the key of this box. Ihe Adelaide Advertiser thus reports what followed “No expedient suggested itself to solve the difficulty, and a decision was just about to be arrived at to conduct the ceremony without the pastoral staff, when the resourceful Df Julius, of Christchurch, who has always been famed for his mechanical skill, came to the rescue. ‘Has anyone a hair-pin ?’ was his apparently irrelelevant inquiry. None of the diocesans had, but a search produced the desired article. Then, while an awed bench of bishops watched and waited with deep interest, Dr. Julius deftly picked the lock of the Archbishop’s box, and lo! the pastoral staff appeared to view!”
