The number present did not come up to expectation, but those who were fortunate enough, to attend had a really good time. The,floor was not crowded, and consequently the dancers were happy. The committee, consisting of Misses Collins and Laing, and Messrs Alf. Fraser, E. E. Smith and 0. Robinson had done all that was possible to make the ball a success, the gentlemen deserving a special word of commendation for the decorations, and the ladies for the supper, which was the best obtainable. The floor was a little “ stiff” at the commencement, but greatly improved as the night wore on. The music supplied by Miss Lnrie (piaoiste), and Mr J. Mullins wi h the violin, was equal to anything to be obtained from elsewhere, and gave every satisfaction.

Mr Donald Qillandera played the two * extras " (Mr Mullins accompanied ■wish the violin) with the “ Simplex,” which t h'o also perfect in time and tune. Tj:e piano used was a splendid instrument kindly lent for the occasion from the establishment of Messrs Gillanders Bros. Dancing was kept up until a little after 2 o’clock, everyone being delighted with the evening spent,
