Earthquakes in Australia

Friday’s shocks were very severe at Warooka, on Yorke’s Peninsula, though the damage to property is not extensive outside Troubridge light, which will involve an outlay of £SOOO to effect repairs. Careful observers state that the shock lasted from a minute to a minute and a half, and was accompanied by loud explosions with choking sulphurous discharges. Scores of women went into hysterics, and many fainted. One woman died of heart disease, accelerated by fright over the shocks. Earthquakes were experienced at Nhill, Casterton and Servieeton, in the western part of the State on Friday night.
