The London Presentation to Rt. Hon. R. Seddon.
The presentation made to Mr Seddon in London is a vary handsome work of art. From'a solid silver base rises a high pedestal, on whose summit is a New Zealand rifleman on horseback. The four corners of the pedestal are guarded >. J by four vigorous lions stalking "■ stealthily forward on rocky ground, 1 and the front and back by New i Zealand soldiers, rifle in hand, standing at ease. 'The sides of the, pedestal are occupied by two scroll / plates, behind which are the crossed • Union Jack and New Zealand en- i' g sign in rich enamel. Above the platej I on the obverse are the Royal Arms in enamel, above that on the an embossed laurel wreath. On the
obverse the plat© bears the inscription Presented to the Right Honorable Richard John Seddon, Premier of New Zealand, by his many friends, in appreciation of his services to the Empire. Lomdon, 15th June, 1902.” In the reverse plate are New Zealand scenes. The whole centre-piece weighs 5000 z., and stands on a polished ebony plinth. ’
