Poultry Meeting.

A meeting was held in Mr Hennesay’s office on Tuesday evening to consider the above industry. A fair number were present, and His Worship the Mayor (Mr Hennessy) occupied the chair. The chairman said the meeting had been called for the purpose of furthering the above, as was being done in other parts of the colony

Mr T, Westwood said Mr. Baker could perhaps give the meeting some information on the question. Mr S Baker said he .thought something should be done similar to what is being mooted in other places. He had been present at a meeting of Mr Hyde’s in Palmerston North, who had said there was more in poultry farming than any other branch. He read the rules of the Palmerston North Poultry Association, also the prospectus for same, and he thought it advisable that Mr Hyde should be asked to visit Foxton and lecture; when he could give them .some idea how to go to. work. Mr Hillary proposed, and Mr Stiles seconded, That Mr Hyde, the poultry expert, bo invited to lecture on the poultry industry. Carried. Proposed by the chairman, seconded by Mr Westwood, That Mr Baker bo secretary pro tern. Carried. Proposed by Mr Baker, seconded by Mr Kruse, That His Worship the Mayor bepresident of the association. Carried.

The chairman said they now came to a very important question—that of expense—and he thought it unfair, to appoint a secretary who would have to put his bands in his own pockets. A subscription of 2s 6d each to defray preliminary expenses was then taken up. Those present were elected a committee, and a sub-committee consisting of Messrs Bullard, A. Osborne, Walker,' Perreau, Stiles and Westwood was elected.

It was decided that the secretary write to the Government for copies of pamphlets re poultry industry. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Hennessy for the use of his room. '
