Burglary in Auckland.

TWO SAFES RIFLED. On Saturday night, burglars entered the premises of Mr Cawkwell, chemist, Newmarket, and removed the safe, which they removed to a lonely spot half a mile distant with a horse and cart, which they took from the stables of Mr Kilgour, butcher. The safe was found opened with a cold chisel, and the contents—tea pounds—are missing. The horse and cart were found close by. The safe was presumed to be fire proof and had the inner walls filled with chips and sand instead of fire-clay. A still more daring burglary occurred at Gleesoh’s Windsor Castle Hotel, Parnell, at three next morning. The inmates were awakened by an explosion in the cellar, and found that the burglars obtained entrance by a trap door, and dynamited the safe, and got off with £9O. The cellar was then full of smoke from the explosion. The burglars evidently, having failed to remove the safe, inserted the explosives and covered the safe with clay, old books, and cased goods. They hid behind the partition till the charge exploded, grabbed the bag containing the coin, and escaped -by the does they had

j loft open to facilitate tboit exit, A horse, cart, and harness belonging to j Mr Robert Dick, of Onehnnga, stolen fon Friday night, was found subse* ■’ quently in the street and was pro* j bably used by the same gang.
