The evidence at the inquest on the man who was shot at Queanbeyan on suspicion of being one of Guilfoyle’s murderers showed that a civilian named Hollingsworth, who was aiding the police, had a finger on the trigger of his gun. He was startled by the explosion of the constable’s revolver, and the gun went off accidentally. . At the inquest at Queanbeyan, on the body of Heaps, the verdict was that he was killed by the shot fired by Hollingsworth, but the jury was unable to say. whether it was the result of an accident or otherwise.
