Murder of a Constable.

A constable named Quilfoyle was informed last night that two men were trying to pass counterfeit coins in a shop and intercepted the men. Quilfoyle asked one man his name, and the answer was two shots from a revolver, fired in quick succession. One bullet entered the constable’s left breast and the other his stomach. The second man fired at Maher, who received two bullets in one of his arms and one bullet grazed his chiu. The desperadoes escapedConstable Quilfoyle died on reaching the hospital at Sydney. One of the constable’s assailants has been identified as a notorious desperado, who was recently released after serving a sentence of fourteen years for coining.
