A New Submarine Boat.

'An improved submarine boat a bandred feet long has been launched at Barrow-in-Furness, Lancashire. It is the joint invention of the firm of Vickers, Son, and Maxim and the Admiralty.

The vessel, which dives in a few seconds, is fitted with Grubb’s apparatus for steering under water, which is an improvement on the French; “ Eoriscoope,” and is navigated when.on the surface like a torpedo-boat, but is less visible. It is able to form up la line of battle, and instead of being employed on purely coast service caa assume the offensive.

The new vessel is expected to prove the finest boat of its class afloat.
