The Horse Guards Parade.
The colonial contingents now in London were inspected by the Prince of Wales on .the Horse Guards parade on Tuesday. The Crown Princes of Denmark, Sweden and RoUmania, the Dukes of Aosta, Hesse and Cambridge, other Royal personages, and the feudatory Indian princes," accompanied the Prince of Wales, who was followed by the Queer!, the Princess of Wales, and Princesses Victoria and Maud. There were crowds of spectators, besides the colonial Premiers and many notable persons. The Fijians, Maoris, Sikhs and Negritos aroused great interest, and the Colonial war veterans were splendidly greeted. After inspecting the troops the Prince of Wales received a Royal salute, and subsequently presented several Victoria Crosses and medals for services rendered in the South African Wat’.
The colonial Premiers occupied stands outside the levee-room. tfir Wilfrid LaUriei'j Sir Edmund Barton and Mr Beddon led A hearty outburst of greetings. The Queen, who was attired in bright summer costume, immediately recognised the loyal and, enthusiastic statesmen, as did tne Princess of Wales. Both were looking pale They smiled and bowed their acknowledgnlerltSi being pleased at the reception. .After the Royal salute further cheering heralded the approach of the Prince of Wales’s cavalcade, including Lord Roberts ahead of the Prince, also the headquarters staff, Indian aides, foreign attaches and military guests. , There has rarely been a finer dla* play of varied uniforms. The Prince of Wales wore a General’s uniform, with the ribbon of St, Michael.
The Duke of Connaught saluted the Queen with his swdrd, offering her Majesty a copy of the parade state. Thereupon the lines were inspected, the Queen’s carriage preceding the cavalcade. The distribution of honours and the proclamation of deeds of gallantry followed.
