The Coronation.
CELEBRATIONS TO BE CURTAILED.
It is announced that the coronation will be much quieter than originally intended, but the religious character of the ceremony will be more strongly emphasised. Fewer foreign representatives will take part, except the nearer connections of Royalty. The Prince and Princess of Wales have greatly relieved the Sovereign of social functions. Mr Seddon has instructed the New Zealand Coronation Contingent to remain till the end of August. At a Benchers’ dinner at Gray’s Inn, Sir Edmund Barton said he hoped to retain the colonial troops if there was a prospect of the Coronation taking place sufficiently early to enable that arrangement being made.
