King Alfonso took the oath to the Constitution in the presence of members of the Cortes. The Te Deum was sung in the Church of San Francisco, where a magnificent medioeval procession was arranged. Newspapers which published a manifesto by Don Carlos emphasising the Joss of the Spanish colonies have been suppressed.
