Public Meeting.
The meeting convened by the Mayor to consider what celebrations should be undertaken on Coronation Day, was well attended last night, in fact there was a larger attendace than had been looked for.
The Mayor took the chair and briefly stated the objects of the meeting. He advocated forming a committee and leaving most to it. Mr Thynne explained, on very much the same lines as appeared in a leader in these fcolurans last week, that there should be a volunteer celebration the first thing in the morning; the church services, in the afternoon Tennis, and other amusements for adults and tea in the hall -for the children. In the evening a promenade concert and a military salute at its conclusion. Mr W. S. Stewart said he saw from the reports of what was being done in other parts that the day should commence with services in the churches. Then he proposed that there should be a grand monster procession in which every person should take part. After that an entertainment for children in the Hall, and then to have a ball or fireworks in the evening. Mr Thynne briefly upheld his propositions which appeared to be in accord with the feelings of the meeting. He then proposed that the following be a committee to carry out the arrangements :—F. E, Jenks, E. S. Thynne, Alf. Fraser, F,. Overend, J. W. Walsh, W. MacDermott, and P. Hennessy. This was carried unanimously. A vote to the chair concluded the meeting. COMMITTEE MEETING. A meeting of the newly formed committee was held at the termination of the Public meeting, all being present with the exception of Mr Overend. - Mr Jenks was made chairman and Alf. Fraser, Secretary. A lot of business was got through and it was decided to issue subscription lists, and various streets were allotted to canvassers.
