The usual monthly meeting of the Manawatu County Council. was_heliL_ >at-S»neOQ on Wednesday. Present —Messrs J. G. Wilson (chairman), Clark, Carter and McLennan. CORBE3ROKDEKOE. The following correspondence was read and dealt with : From Dr Watson, forwarding a report upon a native at Matiwi who was suspected to be suffering from leprosy. The doctor was of opinion that the complaint was a severe form of skin disease, the doctor's account of £1 Is was passed for payment. From E.. Piggott, complaining about the condition of the catting at the Shannon Ferry; the eutting was breaking and generally was in a bad state. From the Traffic Manager, N.Z, Railways, staging the department would in future carry seed returned from seed cleaning establishments free of cost. From Foxton Borough Council, forwarding the following resolution passed at a meeting held on April 14th ; —That this Council refuses to > bear any part of the cost of the proposed traffic bridge at Shannon over the Manawatu on the fol owing grounds: —First, that there is already a traffic bridge over the Manawatu at Wirokino, which is sufficient for all requirements for some time to come; second, that this borough is not an adjacent district within the meaning of the Act, as the proposed bridge site is six miles from the boundary of the borough; third, that the pro- . posed proportion of cost is out of all reason A < opy of the above resolution had ah o been forwarded to the Minister c Lands. From ( nief Surveyor, forwarding tracings if land for road, ElkinsMotuiti ieviation. ATLAS PRESERVATIVES. Mr Burnell submitted a lengthy report of his recent inspection of the Caatlecliff Railway. ' The cost per mile for material if the line is cleared of all large weeds was £B. Two . miles per day could be dressed with engine, tank, and two or three men. The mixture is placed into a tank in the truck and down pipes carry the fluid into a spreader affixed under the truck. The spreader was usually 12ft to 14ft in width. The price of preservative is 15s per drum. PURCHASE OF SLEEPERS. Mr Burnell reported that he had arranged to purchase all the sleepers recently carried down the Rangitikei river and owned by F. Mickelson, of Mangaonoho. The price was first and second-class sleepers, Is 2d and 2s each respectively.—Clerk's action endorsed. FINANCE. Mr Purnell, County dark, reported the various accounts as under: General account, dr £157 6a lid; loan account; or £1199 16s Id; net credit balance, £1042 9s 2d. warrant the Council paying more. ■Jfdtho Foxlon Council’s objection is maintained it means a larger contribution by the Manawatu Council, therefore an objection is lodged. Overdue rates are to be sued for. The question of procuring Atlas preservative for the destruction of weeds on the tram extension was left to the Chairman. Messrs King and Mausall waited on the Council in support of the tram extension. Resolved, that this Council cannot accede to the,; request of the Bulls Town Board representatives or the letter from the Bangitikoi Council in regard to conkiburing £IOOO towards the extension of the tram to Bulls. It was decided to inform M. Boyle that unless he completed his contract of tramway extension within a reasonable time, the Council would enforce the penalty. Tne Council decided to forward a circular to other Local Bodies for signature, urging upon the Government the necessity of taking over the Manawatu Railway, the chairman (Or Wilson) being authorised to draw up the petition. Resolved, to call the attention of the Kairauga County Council to the to protective works at the AwAuu; b ° •* It was decided to write to -.1. Carl Anderson, drawing his attention to the Council’a bye-laws in regard to loads drawn by traction engines. The Council then passed the usual monthly accounts and adjourned.— Manawatu Times.
