The Panama Canal.
A treaty between the United States and Colombia has been signed at Washington for the perpetual lease, renewable every century, of a canal route six miles wide, America paying seven million dollars (£1,400,000), in consideration of which Colombia relinquishes rental and other canal revenues for fourteen years.
