Volunteer Notes.
■ The volunteers had a good muster at the Government parade oa Thursday evening, and after a few preliminary in the drill shed were marched lower end of Main-street tinder The commands of Captain Walsh and Lieut, Baker, who put the-men Through some really first-class work. Four new members .were. : .baliotted for and accepted. The recruits are rapidly gaining experience under the capable tuition of Sergt. Mitchell. A strong committee was proposed for the purpose of working up the annual ball in connection with The carps, and at a meeting held last night decided to hold it on Wednesday, June rßth. The Captain intimated that owing to the delay in getting ammunition the time would be extended for the prize firing. In another column it is all those intending to take part an'-the Government prize firing at Palmerston Nertb, on May 7th, must send in their names at once to the Captain so that railway passes can be obtained.
