Murders at New Britain.
News has been received at Sydney that the natives of German New Guinea attacked the station of Mr Rudolph Wolff, and murdered Mrs Wolff, and infant and a black nurse. Police are pursuing the natives, ten of whom have been killed and thirty captured. When the relief party reached Wolff’s house they found everything smashed and a number of black labour boys desperately wounded. Misa Coe, residing at Wolff’s, was struck with a tomahawk, but Solomon, a boy, displayed conspicuous bravery and rescued her. He also prevented the murderers burning Mrs Wolff’s body. Many of Wolff’s labourers are still missing. It is feared they have been killed and eaten. A general rising of natives is anticipated, and a large force of black labourers has been armed to meet the emergency. The massacre occurred at New Britain, not New Guinea.
