All Saints’ Annual Meeting
The annual meeting of the parishloner* of All Saints’, Foxton, was held last night at 8 p.m. in the parish schoolroom. The vicar (the Rev. Herbert Wilson was in the chair. After opening the meeting with prayer, the vicar briefly reviewed the fife and work of the church, in the Foxton end of the district, during the oast year. He especially referred to the departure of the late vicar (the Rev. Hugh S. Leach), and to his own arrival and institution. Regular services had been begun at Moutoa, and the fortnightly service at Oroua Bridge regularly maintained, with the help ot the lay-readers. The self-denial offerings for the assistance of poor parishes, made in Lent, had surpassed in amount those made the previous Lent by more than so per cent. The departure of Mr Hickson and the illness of MrThos. Lewis (both lay-readers), recced sympathetic notice, and the self-deny-_ ing work of Mr Fraser (now the vicar s only helper in this department), was thankfully recognised. The work of lha Sunday School was making good progress under the restored superintendence of Mrs Stewart. The Laches Sewing Guild had rendered excellent wrvice to the funds. Mr W. S. Stewart gave a report of the financial position which was a most one; and, the balance sheet was read and adopted on the motion of Mr A. S. E *** on :, w s The vicar nominated Mr V\. a. Stewart as his church-warden, and Mr A. S. Easton was unammoiwly reelected parishioner s warden. The following vestry was elected: Messrs All Fraser, Walter Robinson, Charles F. England, R-T. Betty, L. S. Thynne, F. E. Tanks, Walter Barber, William Haoter and Tbos. Lewis. Mr C. F. England was re-elected auditor. Mr Fraser asked if anythmg could be done during this year to increase the fond Stbf purchase of a new organ. Mr Hamer emphasized the advisahihty of a stronger instrument; and Mr Engkad dwKibed the mechanism and
powers of the “ Positive ” organ. The new vestry was recommended to do all in its power to strengthen the organ fund On the motion of the chairman a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to all tbe voluntary workers of the parish, especially to the lay-readers, Sunday school workers, organists and choir, Mrs England, for care of altar flowers, decorators at the great festivals, members of the Ladies’ Sewing Guild, Church cleaners, and to Mr A. 9. Easton for his work as verger. At the conclusion of the _ business of the annual meeting, nominations_ for the office of synodmen. were received by Mr A. S, Easton, returning officer. Mr Alf. Fraser of Foxton, was nominated by Messrs Easton and Stewart. Mr Jas. Penny, of Rongotea, was nominated by Messrs Jas. Costall and W, Davis. The returning officer announced that an election would take place at the parish schoolroom on Wednesday, 30th April at 8 p.m. At the termination of the meeting refreshments were handed round by ladies of the Sewing Guild. The thanks of all present are due to them for their thoughtful kindness.
