Pursuit of the Kenniffs.
The police have detained the father and two of the brothers of the Ken® niffs, the men for whom a large force of police is now hunting in connection with the horse-stealing from the Merivale station, the subsequent stioking-up of a Chinaman and a European and the supposed murder of Constable Doyle and Mr Dalke, of the Carnarvon station, who were in pursuit of them. It is believed that one of the brothers now in custody was present at the shooting affair, and that only two are at large. The police have found Constable Doyle’s horse, with a quantity of charred bones, teeth and buttons in the saddlebags. The bushrangers had evidently burned the bodies of their victims and placed their remains in the saddlebags. The horse broke away from them.
Black trackers traced the tracks of James Kenniff, senior, and John and Thomas, who are now in custody, to the scene of the murder. It is supposed they tried to obliterate the tracks of James and Patrick Kenniff. It is practically certain that Thomas Kenniff was present when the crimes were committed. '
