Sunday School Picnic.
On Easter Monday a very enjoyable picnic was held by the Catholics of Foxton. Mr Howe. generously placed his steam launch and punt at the disposal of Father De Each, and a party of over 100, including many non Ohatbolic friends who were invited, went up the river as far as Paiaka. A fter lunch the usual sports were held including a tug-of-war for the boys, which caused a great deal of excitement. Prizes were distributed to the winning competitors, and after more refreshments were provided a start was made for home at 4 p.m. Austin’s wharf being reached at 6 p.m., where Mr MacDermott on behalf of those present thanked Mr Howe for his great kindness in placing launch at the disposal of Father De Each, and called for three cheers for Mr Howe which were given with great gusto. Everyone was delighted with the trip, the day being a perfect one to enjoy the beauty of our fine river. Abundance of refreshments were provided for the young people who needless to say did ample justice to them.
