New Hebrides.
The steamer Mambare, from the New Hebrides, reports that a tribal war is raging in Tanna. Many natives were killed and captured and eaten, one body being buried twelve days before it was eaten. Since the Mambara’s last visit to the island fifty-one natives had been killed in tribal encounters. The Rev. Mr Paton went on to a battlefield at the risk of his life to attend the wounded. Several severe shocks of earthquake lately had caused much damage in the various islands. They were followed by a seismic wave fifteen feet high, which washed away the trade sheds and a number of small cratt. - '
