Foxton Borough Council.

Tha ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held last night at 7.30 o’clock. Present—His Worship the Mayor (Cr F. E. Jenks), and Crs Austin, Gower, Walsh, Baker, Hennessy, Robinson, and Speirs. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The Mayor mentioned that in accordance with the wishes of the Council he attended the meeting of representatives at Palmerston North to elect a member to the Wellington Harbour Board, and it would have been ' seen by the papers that they had .elected Mr W. T. Wood, the Mayor of Palmerston, to the position. Correspondence inward and outward was read. From 11. Coley, re carting for the Borough.—Received. From R. G. Perreau, offering 108 per year for lease of piece of road at end of Futter street. —Public Works Committee to visit locality. From J. McGill, applying for an increase of wages to 73 per day. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Or Hennessy, That Mr J. McGill be paid at the rate of six shillings and sixpence per day. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Robinson, That the Town Clerk reply to Mrs Saveli’s request stating that this Council has no power to recommend the matter of transfer or otherwise, and stating that tha whole matter is in the hands of the Palmerston Hospital authorities.. Carried. The reports were read. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Cr Speirs, That the clerk be empowered to order the necessary quantity of metal for repairs to Harbour street. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Hennessy, That the Town Clerk again write to Mr T. F. Martin asking for a fuller explanation of the matter referred to. in last letter. Carried. Proposed by Cr Gower,’ seconded by Cr Robinson, That the report's as read be adopted. Carried. Proposed by Cr Gower, 'seconded by Cr Robinson, That the accounts as read be passed for payment. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Baker, That the amount of Hr Haywood’s account be paid amounting to £2 as, for preparing luncheon to Sir J. Ward and party. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Hennessy, That the Town Clerk forward plan asked for by the Minister of Railways, showing proposed exchange of roads as pointed out to him durihg his recent visit to Foxton. Carried. Proposed by Cr Speirs, seconded by Cr Baker, That the Town Clerk be instructed to employ a painter to paint the lamps in town. Carried. Proposed by Cr Hennessy, seconded by Cr Robinson, That the clerk be instructed to write to the Maaawatu County Council requesting them to give our ranger power to pound off the county roads adjoining the Borough. —Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Hennessy, That the petition from residents of No. 1 and a Lines be held over until after the Borough overseer has bad drains cleared.- —Carried. The Council then adjourned.
