Drowning Fatality.
On Tuesday afternoon Michael Shannahan who has only been in the town lately lost his life in the Manawatu river. It appears he was working on the coal boats at the wharf, and not being required in the afternoon went to the head of the wharf on the groin to have a wash. No one noticed what he was doing;, but after a time his clothes were noticed lying in a heap and he was not to be seen. It is feared that he went into the river and was carried away by the strong current. Search was at once made, and continued by Constables Forster and Kidd but without result. Deceased was unmarried and his parents reside at Greymouth.
