Rioting at Barcelona.
Further fatal conflicts have occurred between the strikers and military at Barcelona. An officer known as the Supervisor of Anarchists was murderously attacked, and narrowly escaped being killed. The strike originated in the rejection of the metal-workers’ demand for a nine hours’ day. The strikers prevent provisions entering Barcelona unless conveyed by military. Many collisions with the troops have occurred. Twenty strikers have been killed and a hundred wounded. In one affray a boy fatally stabbed a lieutenant. He was, immediately shot. Towards night tranquility was restored in the city.
