Disastrous Earthquakes.

Earthquakes have destroyed the town of Shemakha, in Transcaucasia, about forty miles from the Caspian Sea. Two hundred bodies have already been dug out of the ruins and hundreds more have perished. Twenty-five thousand of the inhabitants are without food or shelter. Further shocks are constantly occurring. Shemakha appears to be exceedingly unfortunate as this is the third time such a misfortune has occurred. In 1857 it was overwhelmed by in earthquake and again in 1872. The population of the town which is interested in silk manufactures, is 28,545*
