Volunteer Notes.

On Thursday evening the Foxton Rifles, to the number of 43, went through their volley firing under the inspection of Sergt.-Major - Peacock. Owing to the number present the men were divided into two squads with the following results;— No. i Squad scored in volley-firing 8 43, and in independent firing 16.06. No 2 Squad scored :.n valley-firing 7.84, and in independent firing 9.47. For the match next Wednesday with ' - .r. -

the Palmerston Guards, tha following four have been selected as representatives:—G. Jonson, G. Gray, Then. Mitchell and E. Smith. Three more men have to be chosen out of the following, who have to fire again to come to a decision, their average scores being too close to select without a further test, viz. Sand, C. Collins, E. Ball, M. Newth, W. Nye, C. Morgan and F. Hooker. Next Wednesday the company go into camp, and it is directed in the orders published elsewhere that all baggage must be sent to the Post Office Hotel not later than 4.30 p.m. on that day. _______
