Foxton Borough Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting was held last night at 7.30 o’clock. Present—-His Worship the Mayor (Cr F. E. Jenks), and Crs P. Hennessy, A. Speirs, B. G. Gower, A. Baker, J. W. Walsh, W. Robinson, C. Austin, W. Purcell and J. Symons. The minutes of previous meetings were read and confirmed.
Correspondence inward and out ward was read.
A petition was presented by Cr Aus. tin asking that a piece of road i* chains in Harbour-street should be metalled, the petitioners agreeing to pay half the cost. Cr Austin said the work had been brought before the Council on former occasions, and was. a necessity, Cr Speirs said the offer should be accepted, as it might lead to other offers of the same character, . Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Cr Symons, That the road between Messrs Hickson & Reeves’ flaxmill and the cutting in front of the Ferry-hill Reserve in Harbour-street bere-fortned and metalled nine feet wide to a depth of twelve inches, same to be completed by end of March next, in accordance with the letter received from flaxmiilers. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Purcell, That the clerk write to Mr Martin, solicitor, asking his opinion upon the matter of dangerous buildings. Carried. \ The accounts amounting to £64 iis yd were read.
Proposed by Cr Hennessy, seconded by Cr Robinson, That the accounts as read be passed for payment. Carried. The usual reports were read and adopted, on the motion of Cr Symons, seconded by Cr Austin. Applications for position of working overseer were received from F. L. Martin, Thomas Cook, Harry Fiford, J. McGill, William Prew, R. Rand and F, }: Hooker. ' 4 The Council went into Committee to consider the applications, and on resuming the ordinary business the following resolution was declared carried: —Proposed by Cf Symons, seconded by Cr Austin, That T. Cook bo appointed overseer to the Borough Council according to application at 78 by Cr Purcell* seconded by Cr Gower, That the overseer be instructed to have the hole at the corner of Tohnston-street and Parcellstreet filled up at once, also the hill adjoining Mr Thyune’s property. Carried. , , t . Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Cr Speirs, That the path between Clyde-atreet and the Post Office be retarred, providing the ratepayers on same side of path pay half the cost. Carried. < , , , Proposed by Cr Speirs, seconded by Cr Baker, That the overseer be instructed to paint the windmilb-vtanks and stand with suitable paint. Carried. Proposed by Cr Gower, seconded by Cr Walsh, That notice be sent to the owners of property fronting the Wirokino Road to cut the willows encroacbing on the roads, to be completed within a month. Carried. Proposed by Cr Purcell, seconded by Cr Gower, That the overseer be instructed to take proceedings against anyone infringing by-law in reference to heavy traffic. Carried. Proposed by Cr Hennessy, seconded Cr Walsh, That the proprietors of Pascall’s patent medicines be proceeded against for breach of the Borough by-law for advertising on fences, etc. Carried. *
