Sea Bathing.

The following extract from the Hawke’s Bay Herald can be read with advantage by the domicil and Burgesses* of Foxton, though we have not as yet got as far as Napier, but the “ carping spirit ” is to be found amongst us. “ The extremely hot weather which we have been experiencing lately has bad the effect of causing great numbers of young people to avail themselves of the sea-bathing facilities provided by the Napier Council. Yesterday afternoon especially it was a treat to watch the bathers gambolling in the surf. It was probably the largest crowd that has patronised the beach since the marquee was erected, and as the sea was beautifully calm full advantage was taken of the favorable circumstances. Really it teems a pity that all these years wa have not done more in this direc-

tion, in making a feature of our seaJagging attractions, and then boom* -'mg to the utmost extent. If the carping spirit that is occasionally displayed in the Council in objection to the expenditure of a little money for this purpose could only be sunk,, in recognition of the vast amount of good accruing from the advertising of our natural advantages, Napier would benefit all the more. Further dressing . accommodation is needed on the beach for the hundreds who bathe daily. That would have been provided a fortnight ago but for the proposal being unfortunately blocked until next meeting. Meantime the sunny days are passing, and good opportunities are being lost of making our lovely expanse of ocean more attractive.
