Foxton Borough Council.
The special meeting called for the purpose, of fixing the statutory halfholiday was held before the ordinary business was proceeded ‘with, the following resolution being carried :—That the statutory half-holiday be observed 011 Wednesday in each week in the Borough of Foxton for the year 1902. The ordinary meeting was held. Present—His Worship the Mayor and all the Councillors. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Inward and outward correspondence was read. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Cr Purcell, That Mr H. Bradcock be appointed as ranger according to specifications. Carried.
Proposed by Cr Speirs. seconded by Cr Hennessy (pro forma), That Mr Hillary’s resignation be accepted, and that tenders be advertised for a new ranger. Not carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Austin, That the matter relating to Mrs Saveli’s cottage be held over pending further enquiries. Carried. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Cr Symons, That the Mayor be appointed as delegate to represent this Council at fie election of a member for the Wellington Harbour Board. Carried.
Proposed by Cr Symons, seconded by Cr Speirs, That Mr Hamer be granted permission to erect a verandah in front of his shop, Main-street, according to Borough by-laws. Carried. Proposed by Cr Purcell, seconded by Cr Hennessy, That the Treasurer’s, Inspector of Nuisances and Overseer’s reports be adopted. Carried, Proposed by Or Speirs, seconded by Cr Symons, That the Town Clerk be instructed to send to each councillor a statement showing the different offices held Under the Borough with whatever remuneration is attached to the same, and by whom they are received. Not carried. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Cr Symons. That the accounts as read be passed for payment. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by cr Hennessy, That the dog tax for the ensuing year be 7s fid per dog for all sporting dogs, same to be reduced to 5s if paid within one month, and as fid per dog for cattle and sheep dogs, and dogs used exclusively for the destruction of rabbits. Carried. Proposed by Cr Symons, seconded by Cr Austin, That the overseer be instructed to attend to the necessary repairs of the Wirokino Bridge. Carried. Proposed by Cr Hennessy, seconded by Cr Robinson, That the clerk ba instructed to insure the Borough employees under the Workmen’s Liability Act, the same to be done with the Government insurance. Carried. Proposed by Or -Tenko, cccuuueu uy Cr Austin, That the Borough valuer be instructed to prepare the Valuation Roll in accordance with the Rating Act of same to be for the period of three years. Carried. Proposed by Cr Gower, seconded by Cr Symons, That the Public Works Committee inspect the gravel pit and see what gravel is available. Carried. Proposed by • r Hennessy, seconded by Cr Austin, That the Council order 10 barrels of tar for footpaths, etc. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Symons, That the clerk be instructed to gazette the ranger and dog tax collector as soon as possible. Carried.
