General Waldersee and General Toyran report that owing to 2600 Chinese Regulars having rendered aid to the Boxers attacking- the French force under General Bailloud in the vicinity of Tsochan, thirty miles southeast of Pekin, General Bailloud on the 22nd, after a sharp fight, stormed the town, capturing four guns and five standards, and killed and wounded a thousand Chinese. The remnant fled towardi Huanhsien. The French escaped scathless. Owing to the hostility o! the inhabitants they burned Tsochan and neighbouring villages.
