The British Parliament.

In the House of Commons, an amendment moved by Mr D. LloydGeorge M.P. for Carnarvon, to the Address-in- Reply, indirectly condemning Mr Chamberlain's connection with companies interested in War Office contracts, was rejected by 260 votes to 127. Mr Chamberlain, in an indignant reply, said it was hard after twentyseven years' service in Parliament, that he should be compelled to explain that he was not the chief scoundrel* Such rubbishy attacks rendered it difficult for honourably men to serve the State. The speech was received with cheers. The Address-in- Reply was carried by 265 votes to 23.
