Lord Wolseley on the War.

Lord Wolseley speaking on October 17tb at the annual banquet of the City of London School Committee of the Corporation, denied that England has been recently left undefended. "We had our glorious navy which had never failed us, and we had a larger force under arms in England during the war than we had in normal times. During the last ten months we had disproved the statement that we were not a military nation. We had sent 284,---000 men and 170,000 horses, a distance of 7000 miles." He did not believe any othe# nation could have performed such a feat. As to the mistakes that had been made, no nation could send an army into the field without making mistakes.
