The German Showman.

At a puppet show held some time ago in Germany, the proprietor gave what he claimed to be the chief characteristics of the three famous men who have occupied the exalted position of German Emperor—William I, Frederick 111, and the present Kaiser, William 11. '• Kaiser • William," said this public entertainer, " will ever be remembered by his saying, " I have no time to be weary!" The Emperor Frederick's most characteristic utterance will undoubtedly be for all ages, " Learn to suffer without complaining !" and the present illustrious ruler will ever be inseparably associated with his familiar expression, ' Augusta ! pack the trunks I" But the enterprising showman's remarks were reckoned by the law an insult to His Imperia Majesty, and the offending speaker had to pay the penalty of two month's imprisonment for his temerity. After he had completed his time in gaol, and had come out, he resumed his show. But his remarks were, at least in one special particular, changed. " Kaiser William," said he, " will always be remembered by his saying, " I have no time to be weary." Emperor Frederick by his saying, " Learn to suffer without complaining." But lam not permitted to state to you what is the characteristic saying of the present Emperor." Then the ready audience quickly supplied the missing words by loudly exclaiming, " Augusta ! pack the trunks."
